Our Guests

Jim Butcher – author of the Dresden Files, the Codex Alera, a Spiderman novel, Darkest Hours, countless micro-fictions and short stories, and a new steampunk series, the Cinder Spires.

Jeremy Pillipow (Black Magic Craft) – in this YouTubers’ studio, you can find him surrounded by the tools of his trade: a rainbow of paints, utility knives, stacks of insulation foam and electrical cutting equipment.

Jennifer Blackstream – a USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. Her series include the Blood Prince Series, the Blood Realm Series, and the Blood Trails Series.

Evan Quiring – From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Evan Quiring (pronounced Kwy-Ring) has been working in the indy comics scene since 2002. In addition to being the writer & artist on Psyclone Comics Studios’, Lucha Mystery and Murder City Devil, he has done artwork for various publishers including Heroic Publishing, Dynamite Entertainment, Alternative Comics, Scattered Comics, Red Eye Press, Ronin Studios, Markosia, Sugar Skull Media, Hyperverse Comics, Temporal Comics, Bear Manor Media, Antarctic Press, Big Bang Comics and Cosmic Lion Productions

Wolfgang has been to Keycon for many years, growing up as a “con-kid” himself. However, he has grown up to be one of our smartest members, becoming a PhD candidate in Physics. Outside of Physics and the scientific community, Wolfgang has his partner Lillian Bryant, (another Keycon regular) and a soundcloud full of music. With such musical talent, he was a regular filker in The Dandy-Lion, Wolfgang was always such a staple of Keycon while he lived in Winnipeg, even becoming his own meme. # ThanksWolf

About Keycon?

Keycon is a not-for-profit volunteer run convention, fully run by fans just like you! We are Manitoba’s mixed-media fandom convention. This means we invite fandoms of all types as one big community! It is traditionally held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on the Victoria Day long weekend, every year since 1982!

It focuses on science fiction, fantasy and related genres in any form. It includes, but is not limited to, writing, visual arts, television and film.

In terms of content, we might compare it to a Comic Con or an Anime Con, however the size and the format is actually quite a bit different.

Keycon is a far more personal experience with unmonetized Guest interaction, themed hospitality suites, and a focus on community and connection.

Your Guides to Keycon?

There are a lot of other things at the convention that you are probably familiar with. We have a costume/cosplay contest, an art show/auction, a tabletop gaming room, and a marketplace to purchase that extra something for your costume, the out of print book or game you’ve been searching for, or something else that tickles your fancy.

Some other things that are special to Keycon are The Newcomers Dinner, The Keycon Tour, The Social and The Hospitality Suites.

We have various guides that can help you navigate the convention, throughout the weekend.

ONE OF US, ONE OF US!

Keycon is a not-for-profit volunteer run convention, fully run by fans just like you! This means Keycon COULD NOT EXIST without the help of our volunteers!

We have people who help with everything from moving a few chairs between panels, or running a sandwich down to Registration, to people who keep the whole convention running! Now you can’t take our job for this year, but we would love to have you help us make this year, and future years, the best it can be!

Also if you are feeling generous and can spare some funds, please donate to the charity! This year, our charity is Cancer Care Manitoba, as we have so many of our community to cancer, including a mother of this year’s conchair.

CancerCare Manitoba is our provincially mandated agency for cancer and blood disorders. We share its bold vision, “A world free of cancer” and the goal that no life is cut short by cancer — a complex set of more than 200 diseases.

All funds raised and donated remain in Manitoba.
